CEO of Sally Ride Science to speak at Berry College Fall Commencement Dec. 15

Media release: Sheryle J. Bolton, the CEO of Sally Ride Science and a Berry College Trustee, will be the guest speaker at the Berry fall commencement Saturday, Dec. 15.

Berry celebrates the graduation of approximately 106 students this fall. The day begins with baccalaureate at 10:30 a.m. in the College Chapel followed by commencement at 2:30 p.m. in the Cage Center. The graduation ceremonies will also be streamed live at berry.edu/webcast.

 

Bolton, a Berry College alumna, is an experienced corporate executive and business strategy consultant with a passion for bringing innovation to science and technology education.

Bolton holds a bachelor of arts in English, a master of arts in linguistics from the University of Georgia, and a master's of business administration from Harvard Business School. Bolton began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer in Tunisia and a teacher in Georgia public schools.

Bolton was an executive at HBO and Rockefeller & Co., and an investment banker at Merrill Lynch. Recently, Directors & Boards magazine named her a "Director to Watch." Watermark, a premier Silicon Valley organization for technology executives, honored her as a "Woman Who Has Made Her Mark."

She was previously CEO of Scientific Learning Corporation; an educational technology company that develops scientifically validated reading programs based on neuroscience research. As CEO, she led the growth of the company from pre-product launch to a highly successful initial public offering. She also has extensive experience as a director of private and public corporations in technology and financial services.

Bolton was named the new CEO of Sally Ride Science in August. America's first woman in space, Sally Ride, founded Sally Ride Science in 2001 serving as president and CEO until her death in July 2012.
