(Media Release) The Interact Club at the South Rome Teen Center of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia was recently presented with a nationally recognized community service effort that won the 2012 HALO (Helping And Leading Others) award, presented by Nickelodeon cable channel. The annual HALO awards show is nationally televised and hosted by actor Nick Cannon, husband of Mariah Carey. The Interact Club is a Seven-Hills Rotary sponsored service organization for high school students that strives to better the lives of others in the community.
In the past year, the Interact Club has implemented projects ranging from tornado clean-up around Georgia to food and clothing drives to a back pack project providing food for low-income youth over the weekends to work with local senior citizens. Their work was also recognized by the Rotary earlier this year when they were presented with a Rotary International service award.
In addition to the recognition received for its commitment to community service, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia received acknowledgement by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America for increasing its attendance from approximately 280 to almost 400 youth per day in the past year. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America further recognized the local club by selecting local resident and Board Member, Thad Watters as the 2012 Board Member of the Year for the state of Georgia. He won the award over hundreds of board members representing 36 different Boys & Girls Club organizations throughout the state.
"I'm very proud of everything we have accomplished in the past year and thankful for our staff, board members, volunteers and community supporters," said J.R. Davis, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia. "It takes a lot of teamwork to impact the large number of youth and teens we serve and we couldn't do it without the support of this great community."
