Rep. Barbara Reece hosts Women's Day at Capitol

Representative Barbara Reece recently hosted 11th District Women's Day at the Capitol.  Attending were women from Floyd and Chattooga counties and students and faculty from Model, Pepperell, Coosa, GSD, Armuchee, Chattooga and Trion High Schools.  Since Representative Reece first began the annual event in 1999, over 1100 women have participated and learned more about state government while also making new friends from all across the district.
"We plan a full days agenda to educate our women about their government's operations," Representative Reece stated. "As a result, I hope each one will become more involved in community and government activities."

First, the ladies visited the Georgia Supreme Court Chambers where Chief Justice Carol Hunstein addressed the group.  Later they gathered in the House Appropriations Committee Room of the Capitol and were briefed by Becky Kelly, Department of Natural Resources Director for Parks and Historic Sites and Deputy Commissioner Andrea Harper, Georgia Department of Labor.

Lunch was hosted by Atlanta Coca-Cola with speakers Vernon Keenan, Director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation; Nellie Duke, Chairman of the Georgia Commission on Women; and Representative Reece.  Afterwards, the group toured the GBI Headquarters.  Small groups of the ladies were briefed by agents and toured the various departments of the headquarters.

Sponsors for Women's Day are Atlanta Coca-Cola, Chattanooga Coca-Cola, Coosa Valley Credit Union, United Community Bank of Rome and Mount Vernon Mills of Trion.
