Nov. 2-3: Stop Hunger Now seeks volunteers to assemble meal packages for those in need

Media release: Stop Hunger Now is a non-profit hunger relief agency that enables communities like ours to actively engage in the fight to eradicate hunger across the globe.

Our 2012 local Stop Hunger Now event is sponsored by the United Methodist Churches of Rome and greater Floyd County and will take place on Friday, Nov. 2 from 7-10 p.m. and on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m-3 p.m. in the Krannert Spruill Ballroom at Berry College.

Volunteers, 5-95, are urgently needed to help assemble our goal of 100,000 meals for distribution to starving families and children around the world. Packets are prepared using a simple assembly line system and consist of rice, soy, vegetables, flavoring and 21 vitamins and minerals. Each packet contains 6 servings which cost just 25 cents per meal. No special skills are required to participate, just an open heart and willing hands!  Last year, our community packed 60,000 meals that were distributed to 900 children and their families in Turkana, Kenya.

If you cannot join us in November but want to help the 25,000 people globally who die every day from hunger-related causes, your monetary donation would be gratefully accepted. Donations may be sent to Rome 1st UMC, 202 East 3rd Ave., Rome, GA 30161, with Stop Hunger Now in your check memo line. If you have questions or need additional information please call the church office at 706-291-8590.  If  you wish to donate online or to sign up for a meal-packing shift on either Friday or Saturday, you may go to our online registration page at www. events.stophungernow.org/romeareaumc
