Action Ministries Rome announces $17,500 challenge grant for Action Dash; mayor named an 'Action Hero'

Media release: Action Ministries, one of Georgia's leading nonprofits, today announced the details of Action Dash, a family-friendly 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run to be held on Labor Day, September 3, 2012. Proceeds from the Rome event will help Action Ministries provide the hunger, housing and education solutions that help our neighbors in need move toward independence.
In a major announcement, local leaders announced that a member of the Rome community who loves the work being done by Action Ministries Rome – but who prefers to remain anonymous – has generously offered to give a matching gift for all money raised by the Action Dash in Rome up to $17,500.
"An Action Hero is an ordinary person who goes out of their way to help someone in need or is someone in need who works through adversity toward self-sufficiency," said Thomas Clarke, executive director of Action Ministries Rome.  "By participating in Action Dash, people can let their inner Action Hero rise to the surface, help other people and have fun, all at the same time!"
At today's event, Evie McNiece, mayor of Rome, was named an honorary Super Hero in recognition of "her commitment to community service and the people of Rome" by Clarke and Cyndi Westmoreland of Regions Bank, chair of Action Dash.
In Rome, Action Dash will be held at Rome Braves Stadium, 755 Braves Boulevard NE with the following schedule:

6:30 a.m. - Race packet pick up and on-site registration
8:00 a.m. - 5K begins
8:45 a.m. - 1 mile Fun Run begins
9:30 a.m. - Awards Ceremony

Racers are encouraged to dress up in their favorite Action Hero costumes and run, walk, or stroll to raise awareness about Georgia's poverty-related challenges. Forming a team is a great way to get your friends and family involved. Event and registration information is available at www.actiondash.org. Join Action Dash online and follow it at www.facebook.com/ActionDash and https://twitter.com/ActionDash1.
