Media release: Peggy Green was recently named the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) 2011 Member of the Year. Green has been an adjunct Medical Coding instructor at Georgia Northwestern Technical College since 2004 and also works as a coding and reimbursement analyst for Harbin Clinic, LLC. She was featured on the cover of AAPC's May 2012 Coding Edge Newsletter.
According to AAPC's newsletter, Green was nominated by Rome AAPC chapter members Crista J. Kelley and Cynthia W. Lowe and was awarded the Member of Year honor because of her extensive involvement with the local AAPC chapter, as well as her dedication to the coding field, her professionalism, and her character.
According to Coding Edge, Green was instrumental in helping to form the Rome chapter of AAPC and was elected the chapter's first president. She co-chaired the first annual workshop committee and initiated chapter meetings and the annual workshop in 2009. In 2010 she served as education officer and arranged speakers to present for chapter meetings. She has also been invaluable in building the local chapter's growth, recruiting 12 new members in 2010 and 15 new members in 2011. The article also states that out of the 92 Rome Chapter members, 34 of them have been her students!
In addition to working full time at Harbin and teaching at GNTC, Peggy's resume includes teaching the Certified Professional Coder (CPC®) exam review class and proctoring the CPC exams for the Rome chapter, teaching classes at Harbin Clinic, and writing education articles on ICD-10. She served on the planning committee for teaching ICD-10, is currently the local American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) president, and serves as an advisory board member for Contexo Media.
Green also recently reached another educational goal, she graduated on May 31 from GNTC with her associate degree in Medical Assisting.
"Peggy has been a long-time adjunct for GNTC and is an asset to our business division specializing in the medical office area and teaching our medical coding classes, stated Dr. Cathy Vann, associate vice president of Academic Affairs at GNTC. "We celebrate with Peggy on this well-deserved accomplishment. We are fortunate to have her serve our students and college."
