June 4-7: GNTC hosts Young Scholars Program

Media release: This week, Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) is hosting the Young Scholars program for rising eighth-graders. During the week, students are able to gain knowledge of the career opportunities available to them.

This year marks the eighth annual Young Scholars program. Teachers from Rome City Schools teamed with instructors from GNTC to provide a quality, intellectually stimulating summer program for the students. As part of the program, approximately 65 students from Rome City Schools are spending the week at GNTC engaged in various programs and tours of the college.

The outstanding students that attend are nominated by their teachers or principal for their excellent academic performance, outstanding character, and positive attitude. The program topics cover a portion of the curriculum that will be taught in eighth-grade physical science classes and how it relates to various careers. Activities during the week include dissecting cow eyes, making edible atom models, creating candy Chromatography, a forensics activity using mystery powder, and the egg drop.

All events are being held at GNTC's Floyd County Campus in Building H, Rooms 101 A and B and Room 259.
