May 7: Model High to hold community showcase


Media release: Model High School plans to open their doors to the community to showcase the school's total program available to teens in the area.  Model will hold a Showcase to feature the schools academic, fines arts, athletic, and extra-curricular programs on Monday, May 7 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.  "We want to show the community the great opportunities we have for the teenagers of the community," stated Dr. Glenn White, principal of Model High School. "Our new facility is one of the nicest in the area and when you combine that with the high quality academic, artistic, athletic and extra-curricular programs available, we have one of the top high school programs in northwest Georgia."

The showcase will feature information about the Honors Prep academic program which provides a guarantee that students will be ready for college, dual enrollment options that provide opportunities to get college credit while in high school, and apprenticeships that give students "real world experience" in a career of their choice before graduation.  Visitors will also be able to learn more about community involvement in the school and the Local School Governance Team that involves parents, teachers and the community in school decisions.      

During the showcase, dance and drama students will showcase their talents during the event students in the school's beautiful new auditorium that features one of the areas best lighting and sound systems.  Student work from the visual arts will be on display and the school will also highlight their musical programs that feature guitar, band and chorus.  The school also features excellent Indoor Drumline and Winterguard programs.

Beginning in the fall, Model High will pilot a "bring your own technology" opportunity for students.  The school will incorporate student electronic including smart phones, tablets, laptops and other student owned technology into school instruction. 

All students, parents, and members of the community are encouraged to visit Model High School during the Showcase. "We hope to make this an annual event to showcase the quality high school program we have to offer teens of the community," stated Dr. White.
