Media release: The Adult Unit of the Rome/Floyd County N.A.A.C.P. will hold its Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 6:00 P.M. at the Rome Civic Center, on Jackson Hill, Rome Georgia. The theme for the evening is: The Struggle Continues.
The speaker for the evening will be Major General Joe M. Wells, Director, J2/6, Intelligence and Communication, National Guard Bureau. His principal duty is to advise the Chief, National Guard Bureau on all matters pertaining to strategic intelligence and communication issues as they relate to security and readiness.
General Wells was commissioned in 1982 into the Georgia Army National Guard. Prior to that, he served as an enlisted member for the 1st/30th Infantry Division (Europe) and the 159th Military Intelligence Company, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Georgia. General Wells received a Master of Arts in Strategic Intelligence in 2000 from the American Military University, Manassas Park, VA, as well as a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, PA in 2002. He has also earned degrees at Brenau College, Georgia State University, and National Defense University.
General Wells' civilian occupation is Flight Officer on the Boeing 777 Long Range Transport Jet that operates mainly internationally for Continental Airlines. His duties and responsibilities include maintaining proficiencies with the pilot work force to meet flight schedules at the assigned base. He ensures flight level functions are conducted in accordance with federal regulations and company policies.
During his stellar career, General wells has mastered 22 assignments, earned numerous awards and decorations and enjoys several professional memberships and affiliations which include: J2 Functional Advisory Council Chairman, National Guard Association of Georgia, National Guard Association of United States, Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAPS), Tuskegee Airman, Member, Airline Pilots Association (ALPA), ROCKs, Inc. (Military Mentoring Society).
