Floyd School Governance Teams seek candidates

Media release: Schools in the Floyd County charter system are currently looking for candidates for positions on their Local School Governance Teams. Eligible parents and community leaders are needed to fill two-year terms.  Each of the 20 school governance teams in Floyd County Schools will have a faculty, parent and community member position up for election this year.  The Local School Governance Teams concept of school governance is a key element of charter that moves decision making closer to where learning takes place.  It also means involving more people in the decision making process as parents and community leaders help to make decisions to maximize educational opportunities for children.

Each local school in Floyd County Schools has a Local School Governance Team that consists of the school principal, two parents, two community leaders and two faculty members from the school.  To serve as a parent, you must be a parent of a child currently enrolled in the school where you would like to serve on the LSGT.  To serve as a community leader, you must be a business partner or a community resident with an interest in a school.  Parents are elected by parents at the school.  The community leader positions on each LSGT are appointed by the Local School Governance Team.

The local governance teams make meaningful decisions that impact the education of children in our community and drive innovation in our school system.  Decisions made by the teams will include curriculum, budget and staffing in the local schools.  This is the third election cycle for the Local School Governance Teams at our local schools in Floyd County.

If you have a commitment to provide the very best education for the future of our children and community, we look forward to working with you to make an excellent school system even better.  You can become a candidate for the Local School Governance Team at your school by completing the application form available on the LSGT Candidate Information web page.

You may contact your local school if you need more information.  You will also find additional information about charter system and Local School Governance Teams on the Floyd County Schools website at www.floydboe.net or at http://www.floydboe.net/Community/CharterSystem/CharterSystem.cfm
