Three dental hygiene students at Georgia Highlands College were presented with $750 checks when they were named as Hinman Scholars at the recent Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting in Atlanta. Hinman is an organization of dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants and students within the field. It is the largest organization of its kind in the Southeast. Hinman awards scholarships to students from dental, dental hygiene and dental assisting schools. Each school may nominate three students. In the dental hygiene category, scholarships are awarded to first-year students based on the highest grade point averages of the applicants and the quality of their essays. The three GHC students receiving the awards are (L-R) Juana Vejar (Whitfield County), Kim West (Bartow County) and Kristen Smith (Cobb County).
