Media release: Cancer Navigators Inc., the Rome-based nonprofit that helps cancer patients on their journey through treatment and beyond, has relocated to 310 W. 10th St. The new office opened today, Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.
The move represents a new phase in the mission of the community group that partners with the Tony E. Warren, MD, Harbin Clinic Cancer Center, Floyd Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center in the continuum of care for cancer patients.
"We are excited about this new location. It affords us the chance to grow our staff and thus our reach to cancer patients in Northwest Georgia," said Executive Director Charlotte Atkins. "We serve hundreds of patients and their families each year and the need continues to grow."
"We have been blessed that Floyd Medical Center provided space to the group in its first four years. We are also fortunate that at the point when we needed to lease a larger space that we once again encountered the community spirit that characterizes Rome. Thanks to Jimmy Kelley and Hardy Realty we found the perfect space and are transforming it into a sanctuary where cancer patients can find help and comfort."
The building sits in the midst of an enclave of medical and nonprofit offices between Martha Berry Boulevard and N. Fifth Avenue. Most will remember the building as the offices of orthopedic surgeons Dr. James M. Kelley, Dr. William B. Allen and Dr. John McCord, located across from the former Rome Imaging Center site. The building was renovated two years ago as an assisted-living facility. Arbutus Court was in business there until last summer.
Atkins says the timing is good since the nonprofit gets to start the new year in a new home. "We will soon be gearing up for our major fundraiser of 2012. We hope to have the enthusiastic crews from last year return and to add even more teams so that this year will be our biggest and best ever. We need that with our new commitments on this building and other projects we have slated."
Cancer Navigators also has a Resource Center located on the third floor of the Cancer Center.
Cancer Navigators works with patients to guide them through treatment and to help them with the emotional and family stress of cancer treatment as well as helps to obtain a wide range of services from government and social agencies in the community.
