Stephanie Stevens joins Floyd CASA program

Media release: Stephanie Stevens has joined the staff of Floyd County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) as Volunteer Coordinator, thanks to a grant from National CASA. In this position, Stephanie will recruit and train new CASAs as well as increase community awareness about the work CASAs are involved in.

CASAs are trained community volunteers who are appointed by the Juvenile Court Judge to watch over and advocate for abused or neglected children to make sure they don't get lost in the overburdened legal and social service systems. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

Stephanie recently completed a three-day seminar to become certified to facilitate CASA training, and a new training session is scheduled to begin Sept. 14. For more information on volunteering or supporting Floyd County CASA, visit floydcountycasa.org.

A graduate of Darlington School and Auburn University, Stephanie has been involved in organizations that serve children since moving back to Rome in 2000. She has served as president of the East Central Elementary School PTO, president of the Women's Ministry of First Presbyterian Church and on the boards of directors for the Open Door Children's Home and the Rome High PTSO. She and her husband Charles reside in Rome with their four children, and together they serve as a foster family.
