Media release: The re-apportionment issue is becoming even more important and it is starting to look like the politics of power are starting to creep their way in. TEA Party folks, guardians of liberty and the protectors against the political power structure, conservatives, and those who support the values of the Founders should take a position on this issue. Get involved like you always do when your country needs you.
The Northwest Georgia for the Northwest Georgians Committe has developed a proposal for a "9th Congressional District" that I for one believes is right for the interests of Northwest Georgians and in fact sets the tone for "fair and balanced" redistricting. This proposal, in my opinion, provides a district that best reflects the "community of interests" that exist in this area of Georgia. I would like for you to study it and learn about it and you can do that by going to Facebook....Georgia Ninth District.
The proposal, beginning with Polk and heading north incorporates Floyd, Chattooga, and Dade; east to Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, and Fanning; south to Gilmer, Pickens, and Bartow; with Gordon central to the district.
On Tuesday (08/09) Ed Painter of the referenced committee will present the "Committee" plan to the Floyd County Commission Caucus between 12:00 and 2:00 (corner of E 4th Ave and E 1st Street). It will be helpful and appreciated if you take a couple of hours to come to this meeting. It will be a chance for you to learn about this important proposal and to, should you choose, express your point of view.
I for one support the "Committee" proposal and I am disappointed that power politics are apparently starting to creep in as Speaker Ralston and Governor Deal have said this plan would be best served by moving Gilmer and Fannin Counties into the new district (that is apparently the additional, 14th district/congressman that Georgia will get) anchored by Governor Deal's home county of Hall. While I would certainly like to see you support this "Committee" proposal the most important thing is that you become informed and speak out based on the knowledge you gain.
