DOT's Jeff Lewis: Ga. 140 widening to cost $55 million, could be done by 2015-17. The interest in the retail distribution center proposed for Shannon -- believe to be on behalf of Lowes -- could require renewed commitments to four-lane Ga. 140 from the Ga. 53/140 intersection to Adairsville. Jeff Lewis, the area's representative on the state Transportation board, says a time table is in the works to get the project moving. The Federal Highway Administration just got the environmental study report and right-of-way negotiations could begin in several weeks. That process would take 30 months to complete with widening efforts starting afterward. Asked for a best guess on completition time, Lewis said somewhere between 2015-17. But how will it be funded? Lewis says some state funds would be used but most would come from the federal government. Lewis was a guest on Tuesday's Hometown Headlines Radio Edition on WRGA 1470 AM.
