Courtney Hizer, local businessman and racing enthusiast, dies

-Longtime Rome businessman Courtney Hizer has died following a battle with cancer. Daniels Funeral Home says arrangements are pending for Hizer, who was 68. Hizer and his wife, Villa, owned North Georgia Distributing for more than 30 years. Hizer had a passion for racing and as late as last fall, was at theBonneyville Salt Flats traveling at more than 200 mph.

In just a week, Harbin Clinic will open

the doors to its Tony E. Warren, M.D.

Cancer Center, a project years

in the making that will bring the

latest state-of-the-art cancer care

to Northwest Georgia. As patients and families enter the three-story center off Second Avenue, they'll be greeted by 24 "Faces of Hope," a stunning collection of images and stories of area residents who have faces the challenges of cancer.

Rome's Doug Shows to officiate national championship game: It appears Rome's Doug Shows will fulfill the dream he discussed when interviewed by Hometown Headlines' Michelle Picon several weeks ago: He's set to officiate Monday's college basketball finale between Butler and UConn. Shows was one of 10 officials selected for the Final Four games and didn't work either of Saturday's games.CBS has the big game just after 9 p.m. Details
