Koehler and Lou have participated in a total of 619 inspections, assisted in the seizure of 5,440 grams of Methamphetamine (street value $544,000), 2,840 grams of Cocaine (street value $284,000), 6,135 grams of Marijuana (street value $61,354.00) and 61 tablets of M.D.M.A (street value $1,220.00). Total street value of the seized drugs is $890,574.00. Both have assisted with the seizure of $95,624.00 in U.S. currency and also $27,723.96 in asset seizures. The total value of "loss" to drug dealers is $1,013,922.89.
"I want to commend both John and Lou for their service to the community and the police departments," said Joey Jacobs, Task Force Commander. "John and Lou are an asset to the Rome and Floyd County citizens as well as the agencies."
Koehler has been employed by the Floyd County Police Department for 10 years and with the Drug Task Force for 6 years. He assists with all search warrants and assisting other surrounding agencies with other duties as well.
Lou was deployed for service in June 2006 after being rescued from an animal shelter by Koehler. Since being trained and deployed, Koehler has served as Lou's partner and handler while being assigned to the Rome-Floyd Metro Task Force.
Dr. Daniel Todd at Mt. Berry Animal Hospital has assisted in keeping Lou in peak physical condition by donating his services and food.
