Elaine Snow picked as Rome's next police chief.

 
Maj. Elaine Snow to be recommended as Rome's next police chief.
 
-Rome City Manager John Bennett says he will recommend the City Commission confirm his appointment of Police Maj. Elaine Snow as the next police chief of the city of Rome. Says the city media release: "After thorough and thoughtful deliberation, Elaine Snow has been selected as Police Chief for the City of Rome, according to John Bennett, City Manager. The appointment is contingent on confirmation by the Rome City Commission at its meeting on Sept. 7, 2010. A formal presentation will be made at that meeting."
 
-If approved by the commission, Snow will replace her boss of many years, Hubert Smith, who retired earlier this year. Bennett and staff have reviewed a series of candidates for the post, both internal and external.
 
-Snow has been in senior management with the department for years, and also is an active community volunteer.
