El Alazan Mexican Restaurant opening spinoff in Rome's Central Plaza. Mellow Mushroom seeks pouring permit. Cooler, wetter weather on the way. Northwest Georgia high school football previews.

El Alazan spinoff coming to Central Plaza in upgraded Silwan spot

-A second version of Silver Creek's popular El Alazan Mexican Restaurant should be open within a month at Central Plaza. To be known as Mi Alazan, the restaurant will serve much of the same menu as found in Silver Creek. Menu.

-Work already is under way and you'll see some distinct changes soon. Three large windows will soon by knocked into the side of the wall facing Second Avenue.

--The Mi Alazan location has had several tenants recently. It once was Jarrad's barbecue and then Brick Oven Bistro. Silwan came next, serving Middle Eastern meals. It closed in July 2009.

-The original is at 233 Wax Road just off Ga. 101. The site opened about five years ago as a fried chicken/fixings-style restaurant, went through several ownership changes and briefly was home to a barbecue restaurant. Juan Perez opened El Alazan in late 2006 and the restaurant has been a mainstay since.

Alcohol commission to hear Mellow Mushroom, J&C Buffet applications:

-The Rome board meets at 4 p.m. Monday. In addition to more discussion on the food/beverage sales issue, the board will hear:

-An application from Jeremy Duke for a beer, wine and liquor pouring license at Mellow Mushroom coming to 238 Broad St. this December.

-A beer and wine pouring license for J & C Buffett, 126 Hicks Drive, Suite 148.

-Renovations are almost complete on the new Star Cleaners No. 2 location at 1000 Turner McCall Blvd., the old Midas shop. Owner Jay Patel says the new location will be open on Oct. 9. In addition, the building also will have a 1,600-square-foot space for lease. Patel does have a tentative agreement with a tenant who is looking to expand a West Rome business into a second location. Details will be announced once the lease is signed.

-Fun is Good Party Supply is expanding its current location at 1850 Redmond Circle. Owners Ozzie and Delsi Lopez are building a new facility next door to Fred's Discount/Pharmacy Store. The new Fun is Good store also will feature "The Party Room," a party rental location. Lopez says the space will be available for private parties along with cartoon character rentals. They will be putting together party packages once it opens in January.
