Shorter's School of Nursing coming together at Riverbend: A sign facing Riverbend Drive simply says "Shorter College School of Nursing." Inside the campus at Riverbend Center, workers are crafting the rooms and labs and offices that will be home to the nursing school opening in fall 2010. Three other proposals in for Hight site: Sandra Hudson, executive director of Northwest Georgia Housing, confirms the The Gardens of Rome submission (click Downtown) and three others. All will go to an advisory committee for review and then to the authority members. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will make the final call, she says. The authority meets April 22.

Mohawk sells idled Dahlonega plant to poultry company: The Times in Gainesville says Gold Creek Farms has signed a letter of intent to buy the plant closed by Calhoun-based Mohawk Industries a year ago, idling 366 workers. The poultry plant could add 1,000 jobs> Times

Rome News joins other papers in single-copy price hikes: Today's Rome News is thinner than a year ago because of fewer ads and cutbacks on newsprint use. And yet the newspaper now costs 75 cents a day to buy at a store and $2 on Sundays. It gives new meaning to the cliche "less is more." -Sheriff's office adds new Web site: The  Floyd County Sheriff's Office is online with an expanded Web offering including the agency's 2008 annual report, a page to see who's currently in jail, employee updates and other information. To visit the site, click www.fcsoga.com

-Friday's storms did spawn a tornado in Chattooga County: A recent report from the National Weather Service confirms a tornado 200 yards wide and packing winds of 120 mph tore through Summerville last Friday afternoon. The report, filed late Sunday, says the twister caused "considerable" damage to to more than 30 homes and 10 businesses. The most severe damage was in the Commerce Street area. A brick wall was toppled, a single-wide mobile home destroyed. Other minor damage was reported as well. No injuries or fatalities were reported, however.
