-Okinawa Restaurant about a month away: With a pouring license granted by Cartersville city officials, look for the new Okinawa Restaurant in Guyton Park at 1010 Tennessee St. to open within a month or so. It is another Eddie Yap project (he's behind Blue Fin in Rome).
-Berry Business Outlook topic: 'Weathering the Economic Storm': The 27th annual Berry College Business Outlook Conference will focus on "Weathering the Economic Storm: Looking at what lies ahead for the global/U.S. economy and Georgia's economic outlook." Dr. Rajeev Dhawan, the director of the economic forecasting center at Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business, is the keynote speaker. The presentation begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., Dhawan's report at 12:15 and closing Q & A at 1 p.m. with Al Hodge, president and CEO of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. -Housing starts offer ray of hope: The Greater Rome Board of Realtors meets today (noon, St. Mary's Catholic School) and the timing is good. The reason, reports Bloomberg: "U.S. housing starts in February unexpectedly snapped the longest streak of declines in 18 years, raising optimism the market may be finally finding a floor." > Story

-Siren tests set for Georgia Highlands' Rome campus Wednesday: Georgia Highlands College will be testing the Whelen Emergency Alert System, a combination voice and siren system, so it will be very loud. County emergency officials have been notified that the test will take place. The test should last around 15 minutes, with only a short blast or two from the siren.
