Bistro 239 building officially on the market

-The popular restaurant spot at 239 Broad St. is listed with Toles, Temple & Wright with an asking price of $475,000. Built in 1901, it features 5,673 square feet (3,432 on the main floor, 3,241 upstairs). Plus: Another 500 or so feet are on the mezzanine level. The price includes all furnishings and fixtures, says Debra McDaniel, the listing agent. There's already some chatter about what's next with most of it centering on food and beverage use. Ideas floating around even include a dinner theater or wine bar.

-Noon Optimist Club moves to Opi's Waterfront: With Bridges 239 for sale, the Noon Optimist Club of Rome has moved Mondays meetings to Opi's Waterfront beginning at 11:45 a.m.

Downtown Rome captured on new poster

Images from downtown Rome are the subject of a new poster created by photographer Kelly Moore.  The poster

blends images from downtown landmarks such as The Partridge Restaurant on Broad Street and a cityscape to both new and old pedestrian bridges across the Oostanaula. Moore captured the images at random times in recent years and just produced the poster. Copies are on sale for $15 each at his studio at River Crossing (adjoining Hawthorn Suites) on Second Avenue. Latest on Sears/Kmart closings: Last week's announcement about more cuts from Sears Holdings fired up the closing/store merger rumors in Rome. The official word on closings, courtesy of GlobeSt.com: One Kmart each in Marietta, Knoxville and Chattanooga> Details

More cuts coming to Shaw, other Warren Buffett holdings? Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc. is considering more employment cuts this year as the economy continues to stumble. A story from Reuters says many of the company's layoffs were in "the housing market," including 1,900 jobs at Shaw Industries, a 6.2 percent cut. More than 1,100 layoffs came from idled Georgia plants, state labor reports show> Shaw

 

 

Treehouse for Rome to open during River Days?

Barring bad weather, David Smith--the organizer of the treehouse at Ridge Ferry Park designed for easy access by the handicapped--says opening day should fall within the community's River Days celebration set for April 17-24. Volunteers continue to work on the project. Groundbreaking was held last May 20. You'll find more photos on Facebook page created for the project by Smith.
