Breakthrough on 411 Connector? Georgia Transportation Commissioner Gena Evans has added the 411 Connector to to he federal economic transportation and infrastructure stimulus package now before the 111th Congress (Evans letter).  Evans took action based on a letter from state Sen. Preston Smith,  R-Rome, (Smith letter) seeking inclusion because of the road's importance to Northwest Georgia. DOT's endorsement is a critical one for the project. And while it percolates in Washington, state lawmakers from Northwest Georgia will meet in Smith's legislative office on Monday to continue discussions on project. The General Assembly convenes Monday.

>Says Smith in an e-mail on the breakthrough:"This is an important endorsement from GDOT to move the project forward.  It is also a great hurdle to be cleared to get state approval needed for the project to qualify for funding necessary to complete the expensive project.  We continue to have a great partnership of federal and state officials on this effort."
