-Foreclosure on old E. Rome Kroger center? A legal ad in Thursday's Rome News details the scheduled Feb. 3  "sale under power" of what looks like Etowah I  shopping center in East Rome, which "will be sold by the undersigned at public outcry, to the highest bidder for cash." RHL Partners LLC is the subject of the foreclosure and Bob Ledbetter Jr. is listed at the company's agent. Etowah I, off Hicks Drive, had been home to Kroger, PetLand, Play It Again Sports, Hooters and several other businesses, many of which have relocated or closed in recent years. -County preparing for cuts but no loans or tax increases: Floyd County leaders continue to study salary cuts and probably will leave up to 15 jobs vacant to cope with revenue shortfalls. No millage increases are anticipated and no short-term loans--at least at this point.

-UGA analyst/Now is a good time to grow your business: In his monthly column in Georgia Trend, Dr. Jeffrey Humphreys urges businesses to get ahead of the recovery wave expected in midyear. Writes H: "If you have good credit and a solid business plan, 2009 will be a good time to borrow money at attractive rates. By 2010, it probably will be too late to get cheap money."> Column

Says the article on Gingrey, 68: "Dr. Gingrey delivered more than 5,200 babies in his 26 years as a practicing obstetrician, then became a U.S. congressman in 2002, breezing to re-election three times since in his heavily conservative district.
