Shotgun start for September projects
>Clearing the Crossing: Work got under way quickly Tuesday at the site of the Berry Crossing at Martha Berry and the Bypass. In recent weeks, signs for the new CVS Pharmacy have gone up. The 37,000-square-foot center also will be home to the Wachovia branch, shops and restaurants. We also hear the existing CVS store at Armuchee Village will remain open. (Thanks, CL) Click Berry Crossing
>The YMCA is wasting no time on renovations. Just last week, the announcement went out about the $2.5 million capital campaign. Included in the package: large-scale renovations to the Y campus at Second Avenue. Those efforts also got a big start on Tuesday. (Contribued photo, below. Also, click Background).
>Changes in local radio: Listeners to WLAQ 1410 AM are hearing the Glenn Beck Program from 9 a.m. until noon weekdays, a slot previously held by Ludlow Porch. Beck, left, is one of the most popular talk show hosts in the nation with more than 280 affiliates. His site says he's the third highest-rated host among listeners 25 to 54 years old nationwide. Porch's Web site says he'll soon be heard on WGAA 1340 AM in Cedartown -- and streamed 24-7. (Thanks, CL)

>Changes for the Braves' league in 2010: We heard rumors midsummer about two teams from the South Atlantic League shifting to the Midwest League. Now they're fact. The relocating Columbus Catfish (we've knicknamed them the Bowling Green Blowfish) and the Lake County Captains will move to the Midwest League in 2010. That will leave the SAL with 14 members, barring expansion. We continue to hear more changes are ahead> Shift
