>More background on Highlands/business center closing: WRGA on Monday reported an open records request filed on its behalf revealed a July budget reduction memo from Georgia Highlands College to the state regarding ways to meet a 5 percent budget reduction directive. Reports WRGA: "Item number two on that list specifically mentions elimination of state funding requirement for the Small Business Development Center in the amount of $46,308.  Beside the line item is an impact statement which reads, "Elimination of this funding will cause the federal funding of this program in the northwest region of the state to be withdrawn." GHC officials repeatedly denied knowledge of the closing until Sept. 8 despite questions from the media that started in mid to late August. The SBDC closes here Sept. 30.
