Make that Ramada Skytop Center: Billboards already are up for the rechristened Holiday Inn Skytop as the "flag" or brand of the complex at Ga. 101 and U.S. 411 changes over the weekend. Skytop had been a Holiday Inn regular for years but the brand is now controlled by the new Holiday Inn Express & Suites a bit further east on 411 near Country Inn & Suites. Look for more signs of the changeout over the weekend.Up next: Competition from the La Quinta and Comfort Suites brands also in Rome's "hotel highway" district.
Wings Air to be at air show, promoting possible Rome-to-Hartsfield service:
A crew and commuter plane from Wings Air will be at the North Georgia Transportation Expo Saturday and Sunday to discuss their hopes of putting scheduled commuter air service at Richard B. Russell Airport/Towers Field. Robbie Rupard, president of the Lawrenceville-based airline, says Wings Air has been approached by local business leaders to provide flights between Russell and Hartsfield. Fares would be in the $79 to $99 range, Rupard says. He hopes to get a better feel for customer demand during the weekend's air show. If the support is there, Rupard says service would begin shortly. Wings Air already serves Lawrenceville, Macon and Athens areas and also offers extensive charter service to coastal communities and college football games. For more, click Wings Air

Regional gas prices jump mixed early today; make that Hurricane (Sp) Ike?
Latest prices: Gas prices jumped a few pennies in some counties while dropping the same amount in Floyd, based on checks this morning. The question is: where will those prices be in the days following Hurricane Ike. The statewide average was up five cents a gallon since Sept. 5, and a penny overnight. Late Thursday, cars and trucks were two or more deep at each pump at the Murphy Oil station at Wal-Mart. Some stations are limiting purchases in spots throughout Northwest Georgia (one report of a 10-gallon limit in Calhoun).
>Bottom line: Keep an eye on prices this weekend as we might be referring to this hurricane as Spike, not Ike.
>A year ago: we were paying $2.68.
