June to end with a bang -- or body slam? -- in downtown Rome

Surely there's a synergy here we should note but, for some reason, we can only find one common element--all of the following will pump up downtown business the final weekend of June. Consider:

>Friday/Rome's 8th Regiment Band has a benefit concert set for 8 p.m. at Historic DeSoto Theatre on Broad Street. The purpose: to raise funds for the band's trip to Gettysburg. The 19th century-inpsired brass band will mix in polkas, waltzes and other genres. (Source: RLT)

>Friday/Scratch Off John at Schroeder's, 8-11 p.m. $5 cover charge.

>Saturday/The Battle of Rome returns for a fifth edition at The Forum with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. The star attraction: Ex-Marine Brian Stann. Tickets: $20 to $80. Look for a crowd of perhaps 2,500. Click Forum Events.

>Saturday-Sunday/Georgia Cup returns to Rome: Some 300 cyclists are due in town for two days, with much of the action on June 28 taking place in downtown Rome (3 to 10 p.m.) Here's the latest update on what to expect> Local Cup information
