Rome First United Methodist Church welcomes Rev. Dr. Robert Brown as new senior pastor

Media release: The Rev. Dr. Robert Brown is the new Senior Pastor at Rome First United Methodist Church starting on June 23rd.

Robert was born and raised in Atlanta and is a fifth generation native of the city. He graduated from Brookhaven Elementary and Cross Keys High School both in DeKalb County.  He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Biology with a minor in Broadcast Journalism.  He also holds the Master of Divinity degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology and a Doctorate of Ministry Degree from the University of Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary.  He is an ordained elder in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, and comes to Rome First from his last appointment at Hickory Flat in Canton for the last five years. Prior to serving at Hickory Flat he served Ebenezer in Conyers for four years, Bethel in Stockbridge for five years, Executive Vice President at Murphy Harpst Children's Homes in Cedartown for seven years, Concord in Hickory Level, GA for seven years and on staff as Minister of Church Growth at St. Mark in midtown Atlanta for three years.

Robert is married to Denise Cheek Brown who was born and raised in Temple, Georgia.  She attended Temple Elementary, Middle and High Schools and attended the Temple United Methodist Church.  She holds a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA, and is sought after as an accomplished soloist and vocal performer.  She teaches piano and voice at home.

Robert and Denise have two daughters. Christine (21) is a senior at Georgia Institute of Technology with a major in Science Technology and Culture and plans to graduate in May 2014.  Christine is working as a summer intern with NCR in Duluth. Caroline (19) is a sophomore at Wesleyan College.  She is studying marketing and advertising.  She is the Margret Pitts Scholar at Wesleyan and is a leader in the Pierce Leadership Program and a Wesleyan Disciples student leader.  She is a Wesleyan orientation leader for the summer.

Robert and Denise enjoy playing with their Boston Terrier "Lola," working in the yard and traveling.
