The fundraiser began a month ago when students began collecting pledges for each challenge presented on the obstacle course. Each student completed a total of ten trials set up and manned by parent volunteers, ranging from muddy rope swings to dodging water balloons, and ending with a giant slide.
The school's PTO board hatched the idea to create its own obstacle course after two very successful fundraisers outsourced to a fun run company. "The students loved it, and it was an exciting way to raise money, but we had to give a large percent of our profit back to the hosting company," said Chrissy Hughes, co-chair of the event. "This year, the kids are having just as much fun, and we are able to keep 100% of our profit."
The original obstacle course date of May 6th was cancelled due to the heavy rains recently experienced in the area, and students had an extra week to collect pledges. As of the make-up date of Friday, May 10th, the school had succeeded in earning over $17,000 in pledges for the fundraiser.
