Law Enforcement officers honored by area civic groups

Media release: Several local law enforcement officers were awarded the "Respect for Law" award Tuesday at the Coosa County club in a joint meeting of the Noon Day Optimist, Kiwanis, Seven Hills Rotary and the Lions Club.  According to Tom Caldwell with the Noon Day Optimists, "this award was started in the early 1970's after then FBI director J. Edgar Hoover put out a request to local civic groups to honor their local law enforcement."

"The award recipients are selected by their peers" said Caldwell. "They are officers who are dedicated to not only protecting and serving but also having an impact outside the badge."

This year's recipients are:

Trooper First Class Chris Harris from the Georgia State Patrol

Officer Tim Dickens from the Floyd County Prison

Lt. Dana Collum and Sgt Dan Bickers from the Floyd County Police Department

Sr. Deputy Jason Prescott from the Floyd County Sheriff's Office

Officer Josh Kerce from the Rome Police Department

Senior Deputy Jason Prescott receives award from Mark Eubanks of the Noon Day Optimists.
