Media release: The Spring 2013 Seventh and Eighth–grade Berry College Mathematics Contest was held at Berry College on Thursday. Nine seventh- and eighth-grade teams competed. The top three teams were: first, Rome Middle School; second, Tattnall Square Academy (Macon); and third, Armuchee Middle School (click AMS). Top individuals student winners were: Jed Henderson from Dade Middle School, first; Jaaie Varshney from Rome Middle School, second; and Faith Horton from Rome Middle School, third. Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle School, Berry College Elementary & Middle School, Centre Middle School, Coosa Middle School, Dade Middle School, Pepperell Middle School, Rome Middle School, St. Mary's School and Tattnall Square Academy. Berry College hosts the competition to promote and encourage mathematical excellence. Several Berry students and mathematics faculty worked with the event. Senior biology major Shelby Stone, daughter of Charlise and Chris Stone of Carrollton, was the student supervisor for the competition. Dr. Martha Tapia, Professor of Mathematics Education, is the faculty supervisor for the event.
