Armuchee Middle places third in Berry math competition

Media release: Armuchee Middle School's math team finished third in the annual Berry College Middle School Math Competition on Thursday, April 4.  The competition consisted of nine teams of 7th and 8th graders representing schools from Northwest Georgia.

The competition consists of three rounds.  Round one is written test that is taken by each student.  The competitors are given 20 minutes to complete the test.  Round two is the "ciphering" or speed round. During this round, each student is given the same 10 questions.  If they correctly answer the question within the first minute, 10 points are earned.  If the competitors accurately answer the problem within the second minute, they earn 5 points.  The final round is called "problem solving."  During this round, teammates work together to solve problems.  Scores from all three rounds are totaled to determine both the top three individual scores and the top three team scores.

The Armuchee team members included: Reid Blackmon, Jayme Barrett Dewan, and Jack Stallins.  The teacher sponsor for the team was Laura Ann Moore.
