Seven students from Floyd County middle and high schools have been selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educator’s Association All State Chorus

Media release: Seven students from Floyd County middle and high schools have been selected to participate in the Georgia Music Educator's Association All State Chorus for 2013. Chorus students from Armuchee Middle, Armuchee High, Coosa High and Pepperell High will represent Floyd County at the gathering of the best musical talent in the state held annually in Savannah. This year's event was held February 21 - 23.

Students selected from Floyd County were: Christopher Castro, a seventh grader at Armuchee Middle; Brian Richey, an eighth grader at Armuchee Middle; Rachel McCurry, an eighth grader at Armuchee Middle; Valerie Moore, a sophomore at Armuchee High; Ali MacFarland, a freshman at Coosa High; Bob Hand, a sophomore at Coosa High; and Mary Kate Bagwell, a senior at Pepperrell High. This is second year to be selected for All State for McCurry, MacFarland, and Hand. This is Bagwell's fifth time to be selected.  These students are among a very select group of choral performers brought together for the purpose of rehearsing and performing selected music with guest conductors. Students are selected through auditions where they are scored on intonation, rhythmic accuracy, pitch accuracy, vocal tone quality, diction and musicality.

The program for gifted singers was held at the Savannah Civic Center and will include some of the top conductors in the field. The students performed in groups made up of senior men, senior women, senior mixed, intermediate mixed, middle school treble, and middle school mixed.

The Georgia Music Educator's Association (GMEA) is a state affiliate of the Music Educators National Conference. GMEA is an organization of approximately 4000 music educators dedicated to promoting excellence in music education.
