Media release: A push pin Civil War art show is planned for the studio of 'Blacktop' (artist Ken Gentle) on Broad Street from June 1-15.
The event is open to all visual artists. You can enter up to three 2-dimensional paintings/drawings/etching/original photography/etc. (maximum 36" x 36") having to do with this region of the country during the Civil War (people, places, events, abstract, realism, whatever). Consistent with all push pin shows, this will be "first come, first served." The hanging will take place at the studio Friday evening, May 31, beginning at 6:30 PM.
-The Show will be open to the public on Monday through Saturday for those two weeks from 10 AM until 5 PM. On Saturday, June 1st, the 200 and 300 blocks of Broad Street will be blocked off to auto traffic from noon until closing for a special event (details forthcoming). Many pedestrians will be visiting the area all day. Also, many Civil War Sesquicentennial events will be taking place, including battle reenactments, Forrest's capture of Streight's raiding party nearby on the way to Rome, and so forth. The Rome and the Georgia Civil War Sesquicennial commissions will be staging various events. And more!
-Since the Push Pin Civil War Art Show is endorsed and promoted through the Rome Art Coterie, members of the Coterie may hang their 3 pieces of art for free. Others may pay a small $5 fee per artist to participate or may "join" the Coterie through August for $12.50. Ken Gentle may take a small commission on each sale (to be announced).
