Deputy Jerry Duke Promoted to Accreditation Manager and Public Information Officer

Media release: The Floyd County Sheriff's Office announces the promotion of Deputy Jerry Duke to the positions of Accreditation Manager and Public Information Officer. Duke has been employed with Floyd County for about 3 years and has been with the Sheriff's Office since August of 2011. Prior to his employment with Floyd County, Duke spent nearly a decade in the news media.

Duke is from Floyd County and currently lives in the Silver Creek area. He is married and has 4 young children ages 11, 9, 7 and 5.

He has attended Shorter College and is a candidate to receive a degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia this May. In addition, he is also working toward completion of a second degree in Criminal Psychology. He is a certified Peace Officer and Jailer, having graduated from North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy.

"I am excited at the opportunity to work with a great group of individuals." Said Duke. "Accreditation is extremely important to the Sheriff's Office and is a testament to the philosophy that Sheriff (Tim) Burkhalter and Chief Deputy (Tom) Caldwell have of transparency and accountability." Duke added, "as far as Public Information Officer, that is the information conduit between the public and the Sheriff's Office. Keeping the public informed is one of our most important duties and I look forward to being a part of that."

"Up until this point, I have always handled the Public Information duties." Said Chief Deputy Caldwell. "However, I felt it was time to pass those duties on."  Caldwell added, "Jerry has a unique skill set. He spent several years working in the news media and has seen both sides. I think that will help us reach out and better serve our community, whether it be through our website, our facebook page or the many other ways the Public Information Office interacts with the public."
