Berry College's Rick Woodall to head state organization

 

 

Media release: Berry College staff member Rick Woodall has been elected president of the Georgia Education Advancement Council for 2013.

Woodall has served on the GEAC Board of Directors since 2007, most recently as president-elect and planning chair for the group's 2012 annual conference. He also led planning efforts for the 2008 summer conference hosted by Berry.

As president, Woodall heads a 14-member board charged with providing direction for the statewide organization, founded in the early 1970s to foster greater professional advancement for Georgia's college and university personnel.  Membership is open to professionals at the state's public and private colleges and universities and technical colleges who work in the areas of alumni relations, communications and marketing, development, and related roles.

A 1993 graduate of Berry, Woodall currently serves the college as director of campaign promotions and advancement communications. He is managing editor of Berry's award-winning alumni magazine and editor of a monthly e-newsletter to alumni. He joined the Berry staff in 2004, spending his first six years in public relations and marketing.

Previous career stops include Kennesaw State University and several North Georgia newspapers, including the Rome News-Tribune, Calhoun Times, Cedartown Standard and The Daily Tribune News in Cartersville. He has also done freelance writing for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Georgia Trend magazine. His work has been honored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Georgia Press Association, Georgia Associated Press Association and Georgia Sports Writers Association. He also shared the 2010 Voice of Berry Award for staff.

Woodall's election as president was made official at the 2012 annual conference in mid-November. Continuing a strong period of growth for the organization, the event was one of the largest in GEAC history, with approximately 200 attendees representing more than 50 institutions of higher learning participating in three days of professional development opportunities on St. Simons Island. Events planned for this year include a summer conference on the campus of Emory University and the 2013 annual conference, to be held at Brasstown Valley.
