Media release: The Floyd County Board of Education has begun the search for a new superintendent to replace Dr. Lynn Plunkett, who is retiring in December. A survey has been developed by the Georgia School Boards Association to help the board better understand the wishes of the community as decisions are made during the superintendent search. The survey is very short and is being provided to the community to get your ideas regarding the qualities you feel are important for our next superintendent to possess. The board will use the information as they interview potential candidates for the position of superintendent, and as they make their final decision on who will lead our school system. Thank you for helping us find the very best person possible to lead our schools.
Applications for the opening of the superintendent of Floyd County Schools will be accepted through Friday, September 14. All applications are processed through the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA). The GSBA organization is handling the initial application process for the Floyd County Board of Education.
Dr. Lynn Plunkett will officially retire as superintendent of Floyd County Schools on December 1, 2012. The date will also mark the fifth anniversary of Dr. Plunkett becoming superintendent of Floyd County Schools.
During her time in Floyd County Schools, Dr Plunkett has helped to improve the system's honors academic program to become one of the top programs in the area. The Honors Prep program of study comes with a guarantee that graduates will be ready for college. She also has worked with the community to develop the Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy charter school and transition the system to become one of Georgia's first charter systems.
One of the driving forces behind the charter movement is the involvement of parents, businesses and the community in the education of the children in Floyd County. This survey is an example of Floyd County Schools putting this charter philosophy into practice. Working together we can help make the dreams of the next generation a reality.
