Media release: Local authors will sign their books and guests can enjoy readings and a cocktail reception with hors d' oeuvres on Aug. 9 at the Rome Area History Museum. The event is hosted by Rome Area Writers and is in lieu of the group's usual monthly meeting at the Rome-Floyd County Library.
"Although guests are always welcome to our meetings at the library, we've been looking for more ways to get our work out into the community," said Bryant Steele, president of Rome Area Writers. "We're calling this event 'Out and About With the Writers.' We think the public will enjoy this evening at the museum, and our authors will have an opportunity to display their books.
"Visitors can move about freely from the refreshment area, to the room where writers will read from their works, to the area where writers will sign their books."
Rome Area Writers was founded 1999 and is made up of individuals who like to write and who support the literary arts. The group currently has 31 members, 17 of whom have books in print. Others write for periodicals. The group publishes Lavender Mountain Anthology, a collection of poetry and prose, each fall.
"Out and About With the Writers" will be on the top floor of the history museum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 9. Guests should use the back door events entrance on Tribune Street.
