Media release: A year ago after the tornadoes tore through our community,
the Community Organizations Assisting in Disaster wanted to meet the
needs of our community. These needs which ranged from recovery of personal
items to helping clear the massive amounts of debris and
downed trees.
We were able to assist with over 100 requests for help in theses areas. Our
community responded with volunteers willing to
go out into our community and help these families who had been devestated
by the tornado. Volunteers went into every area of Floyd
County that had storm damage to help serve our hurting community.
There were volunteers from all over the state of Georgia that came to
help with the recovery and logged well over 1,300 volunteer hours and
teams continued to work well into the month of June to help with the
recovery process.
The COAD would like to say thank you to each volunteer who gave selflessly
of their time and energy whether it was
at the Disaster Recovery Center manning a phone line, helping families
recover personal items that had been strewn by the tornado, or helping
cut up and remove the massive amounts of trees and debris.
Your contribution was necessary and appreciated and we could not have done
it without you. Volunteering: call 706 -844-4490.
