State House recognizes state champion Coosa High School Cheerleading Team

                     

Media release: The Coosa High School Cheerleading Team was recently recognized by the Georgia House of Representatives. Rep. Barbara Reece presented a resolution sponsored by the Floyd County Delegation to seniors, Harleigh Turner, Janna Hubbard, Becca Larue, Christy Chastain, Maggie Brewer, and Raven Davis. Harleigh Turner accepted the resolution on behalf of the team and addressed House members thanking them for their support.

 

The cheerleading team were State Champions in 2008 and 2011.  In 2010, they tied with Calhoun for first place.  When a tie-breaking formula was applied, they were named second place in the state.

 

For the Session opening, the six senior members were seated on the first row of the House chamber with other team members seated in the gallery.  The Chaplain of the Day brought an inspirational message then Speaker Ralston introduced American Idol star Lauren Aliana who gave a brief talk and sang "Georgia on My Mind."  Later, Lauren visited with the cheerleaders and posed with the girls for photographs.  

 

Other members of the team are: Alexia Burns, Triston Casteel, Alex Cescutti, Taylor Chambers, Emily Duggan, Leah Early, Savannah Gay, Shannon Hammons, Debresha Haselrig, Caroline Hubbard, Paige Levesque, Charity McFather, Talyn Murphy, Josie Perry, Caroline Shepherd, and Raegan Warren. Coaches are Beth Nichols and Craig Bing.
