Media release: The Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, Inc. has been awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000 by It's The Journey, Inc., producers of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will fund a Program contracted with Public Health District 1-1 to provide biopsies for women of any age who present at the health departments in 8 counties with a questionable clinical breast exam, suspicious mammogram or physician's referral which requires a biopsy for diagnosis. The Counties covered are Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Polk and Walker Counties. This grant is one of 23 It's The Journey awarded this year to organizations across Georgia.

"Even in these tough economic times, the board of directors has been able to grant funding for many Georgia organizations," says Kim Goff, Executive Director of It's The Journey, Inc. "We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical exams to hereditary screening and follow-up treatment for breast care. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities."

It's The Journey, Inc. held its annual grantee reception at Maggiano's in Buckhead last night to celebrate the recipients and the work they do in their communities throughout Georgia. Grants were awarded to 23 organizations across the state. These organizations include those who provide treatment to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices and offer multi-language treatment options.
