Internal Investigation finds Sheriff's Office employees in violation of policies

(Media Release) As previously reported by this agency, Deputy Claude Richerson, Former Deputy Matthew Bouge, Jail Officer Thomas Keeney & Jail Officer Terry Williams have been the subject of an internal investigation regarding a matter that occurred inside The Floyd County Jail on January 30, 2012. On February 3, 2012 all four employees were notified that an internal investigation was being conducted. Jail Officer Terry Williams was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation. Deputy Richerson, former Deputy Bogue & Jail Officer Keeney were placed on specified duties in the jail pending completion of the investigation.

On February 3, 2012, Sheriff Tim Burkhalter requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigations conduct an investigation into the incident that occurred at The Floyd County Jail. On March 6, 2012, Deputy Sheriff Matthew Bouge resigned his position with The Floyd County Sheriff's Office to accept a position with another agency outside of Floyd County. Upon the conclusion of the internal investigation it has been determined that all three remaining employees have been found to be in violation of numerous policies of The Floyd County Sheriff's Office.

As a result of the findings, Jail Officer Terry Williams has been terminated from his employment. Deputy Sheriff Claude Richerson & Jail Officer Thomas Keeney have received a (3) three day suspension without pay effective April 1-4 2012.

All three Deputies have the right to file an appeal of this administrative decision to the Floyd County Personnel Board. They have (10) ten business days to do so.
