150th Anniversary of The Great Locomotive Chase

(Media Release) One-hundred fifty years ago during the American Civil War, a small band of Union spies carried on a daring raid into North Georgia in what became known as the most famous train chase in history, "The Great Locomotive Chase".

On Saturday, April 14, Calhoun will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of The Great Locomotive Chase at the historic Gem Theatre with festivities kicking off at 3 p.m.  The event will include: Civil War reenactors displaying infantry weapons and a cannon, Stand Watie Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans greeting guests, "Crossroads to Conflict" by Barry Brown book signing from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Gordon County Historian Ken Padgett's rendition of The Great Locomotive Chase as it relates to Gordon County at 3:30 p.m., free showing of Walt Disney's "The Great Locomotive Chase" at 4 p.m. and Bobby Horton Concert at 7:30 p.m.  Concert tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.  All other events are free.  The event is being co-sponsored by the GEM Theatre, Gordon County Convention & Visitors Bureau and Gordon County Historical Society.  For more information and concert tickets visit www.calhoungem.org or call (706) 625-3132.
