-Golden Crown opens in former Tootsie's location: The former home of Tootsie's Deli East at 2017 Maple Ave., Suite D, is now open as Golden Crown, a Chinese restaurant with lunch prices of $4.95 to $5.95. Our tipster says the food is cooked fresh with no buffet. 

Idea Image Big win for McHenry Primary, community:

-Through Facebook, e-mails and the original form of social networking--word of mouth, McHenry Primary School has secured a $25,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project to build a playground for handicapped children. The final votes

trickled in Tuesday night; the challenge website wasted no time in listing McHenry as the finalist. Those votes came from throughout the community, thanks to a concentrated effort by the school's PTO, students, faculty, staff and friends. Details

-Sept. 23/Floyd County Republican Women set first debate for general election: It is set for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Etowah Senior Citizens Center on Kingston Highway. Democratic and GOP candidates for four local races are invited: County Commission Post 4; House districts 13 and 14; and Senate District 52.

-Sept. 7/Floyd County Republican Women's meeting, 11:30 a.m. lunch, noon program, Red Lobster, Shorter Avenue. Speakers: Ralph Hudgens, insurance commissioner candidate, and Christian Coomer, candidate for state House 14.
