Lots of changes along Rome's Turner McCall Blvd. Less sizzle, more drizzle today. First Friday: Infinity Show Band. Weekend updates.

Lots of changes along Turner McCall Boulevard . . .

1) Steak N Shake on target for Sept. 15 opening

-Hundreds lined up Thursday to apply for one of the 110 or so jobs to be filled as Steak N Shake opens on Turner McCall Boulevard by Sept. 15. Wayne Robinson, who with Brooke Temple is bringing the popular burger-and-shake franchise to Rome, says the restaurant will open with more traditional hours at first and then expand to 24/7 within three months. Applicants were at the modular building in front of the construction site by 8 a.m. Thursday and some hung on even during the midday heat (98 degrees).

2) Coming soon to the Village Plaza: Initially Twisted

-A new custom works shop is coming to Rome. Initially Twisted is opening in the Village Plaza of Turner McCall about midway between Subway and the Village Theatres. The shop will specialize in custom-designed items such a handbags, jewelry, T-shirts, other clothing and luggage. As hinted by the name, monogramming is part of the operation. There seems to be a trend of customizing shops expanding or opening in Greater Rome.

-In Cartersville,  L & L Embroidery & Engraving is closing its retail location, according to the owner's Facebook note.

3) New home for Star Cleaners Plus

-Renovations are under way on the old Midas shop at 1000 Turner McCall Blvd. Star Cleaners Plus will be moving from its current Hicks Drive location near to the old East Rome Kroger into the newly renovated site at the end of September, says owner Jay Patel. "We're going to be trying something new by offering pressed bed sheets and pillowcases, along with renting tablecloths and linens," he says. In addition, the new location will have a 1,600-square-foot space for lease.  (By Natalie Simms)

4) A new name for gas in Greater Rome: The on-again, off-again convenience store on Turner McCall across from Cooper Street has a brand name finally--Valero. Temporary signs are in place. For more on the gas brand, click Valero
