Hight Square 'will dramatically change the shopping habits' of Rome? First test for new-look Barron Stadium. More heat. Dining & drink.

The look of things to come -- once all that rubble is gone?

-Visitors to Madison Retail LLC's website these days are finding a link to Charles Hight Square, "an exciting new shopping destination" in Rome with an estimated opening date of spring 2012. (click)

-Motorists on Turner McCall Boulevard across from Floyd Medical Center these days see tons of debris, the remnants of the Hight Homes public housing community. -Madison Retail repeatedly has told community leaders to expect the county's first Publix as the anchor. Publix officials say nothing is on their planning sheets.

-More highlights from Madison's site:

-Charles Hight Square "will dramatically change the shopping habits of the Rome community and beyond."

-"Anchored by the region's dominant grocery store chain, the project will offer a fresh lineup of local, regional and national shops and restaurants."

-The accompanying site plan, below, shows no restaurants. It features a 54,340-square-foot grocery with a drive-through (pharmacy?); a bank branch; at least 28,000 square feet of retail fronting Turner McCall; an office/retail mix off Fifth Avenue; and a two-story office in the corner at West Ninth and Keelway Drive.

-There's a main entrance off Turner McCall and entrances off Fifth and Keelway.

-For now: How about keeping the crews focused on removing the eye sore.
