Tuesday's Headlines

-Charles Reichel, Executive Director of Rome's National Creative Society, has passed away. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Daniels Funeral Home will have charge of the arrangements. He is being remembered on Facebook by friends of the All-Things Artistic group. One comment, "Charles was a wonderful friend & so very involved in our community with the arts & more. He will be extremely missed."> NCS

-U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey will be in Summerville today for a "Listening Session" with constituents. He will be at the Summerville Library from 10-12:30 p.m.

-The Floyd County Sheriff's Office is hosting a blood drive in honor of Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at 2526 Calhoun Road. Wilson was diagnosed last year with multiple myeloma. Currently in remission, he will undergo a stem cell transplant in April."We've hosted several blood drives at the Floyd County Sheriff's Office and many of our law enforcement officers know Sheriff Wilson, so they wanted to help," said Sandra Kerr, donor recruiter for Blood Assurance. Visitors at any blood drive during the month of April can register for one of two John Deere riding lawn mowers. All donors will receive a complimentary snack and T-shirt. -Rome Little Theatre will hold auditions for "Broadway Spectacular III", directed by Don Rusaw, on April 10 from 12-4 p.m. and on April 11 from 2-5 p.m. Show dates for "Broadway Spectacular III" are June 25, 26, and 27, and July 2, 3, and 4. 

-Cancer Navigators is offering a new Survivorship Series of 3 free informative and fun classes on important issues for cancer survivors and their families. First session begins April 12.> Flyer

-Floyd County Public Works is looking to secure places to dispose of waste soil from projects. Sites should be a minimum of 5 acres. Other factors to be considered include access and site conditions. -Family and friends will gather today to remember Rome Accountant Shane Richardson, co-owner of Abbott & Richardson C.P.A., who passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer.> Obituary

April 27/The Masons' Challenge for Children's Health Care of Atlanta is a fund raising event for the new RiteCare Speech and Language Clinic at the Scottish Rite Hospital. Masons are selling sponsorship packages to businesses and individuals for the Spring Classic, an annual baseball game between Georgia and Georgia Tech, to be held at Turner Field on April 27. April 17/Pep rally, meet-and-greet for RHS Football Coach Franco Perkins. The Rome High School Football Wolfpack Club invites all to a Community Wide Pep Rally to meet and greet former West Rome standout and newly appointed Head Football Coach Franco Perkins from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Rome Civic Center, Jackson Hill. Enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers while meeting Coach Perkins and his staff. Admission is free.
