Rome City Market in Foreclosure, New Head of Floyd GOP

Rome City Market, a concept that grew out of a high-end Broad Street wine shop to envision a bistro, florist and more, is in foreclosure, the Rome News reports. Former Rome businessman Walt Adams sought investors, especially in the medical community, to buy into the idea at levels of $10,000 to $25,000, according to some of the prospects. At one time, D Morgan's Derek and Meredith Morgan were to open a bistro. Todd Bussey of Cedartown's Bussey Florist was to open as well, along with Riverside Gourmet, which is opening with a new concept at the corner of Broad and Second Ave next month. But all that appears over with the filing. Next up: there is a viable suitor for the spot.> RNT

There's a change in command at Floyd GOP as Dr. Dan Hanks is elected chairman by the committee of the Floyd Republican Party after the resignation of former Chair Mike Morton. Hanks, a retired radiologist, will serve the remainder of the term through March 2011. Officials state Morton resigned to spend more time with his family and his lobbying efforts. Morton also wrote a letter to local, state and national GOP officials, a copy of which was forwarded to Hometown Headlines after the new Chairman announcement, stating he could no longer support National Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele because of Steele's acceptance to speak at Al Sharpton's National Action Network. Steele writes "Michael Steele, in his acceptance of the invitation to speak at Sharpton's National Action Network stamps his approval on one who opposes the very values of this great nation."> GOP
