Cooper recommends merging Anna K. Davie, Southeast elementaries during the next two school years: Hometown Headlines has learned that Dr. Gayland Cooper, superintendent of Rome City Schools, will be recommending to the School Board to close Anna K. Davie Elementary School. The recommendation would be to move Anna K. Davie students to Southeast Elementary School at 1400 Crane St. for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years. No word yet on what would happen to staff members. Cooper met with the faculty at both schools last week to discuss his recommendation. The school board meet at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at the central office. The 2008 education SPLOST approved by city and county voters includes money for a new Anna K. Davie school. (By Natalie Simms)
